(Mexico City) -- Scooby Doo and the gang solved the case of the Lucha Monster today by unmasking a longtime wrestling star.
It was supposed to be a routine day for Scooby and his four teenage friends, when the Mystery Machine accidentally crossed over the border and ended up in Mexico. While Scoob and longtime companion Shaggy set out looking for "some burritos to, like, chow down on," they heard that an evil being was haunting Arena México.
"And we don't mean, like, Vampiro, either!" Shaggy joked.
The gang was told by locals about the legend of Maestro De Suciedad ("Master Of Dirt") and were warned that he only surfaced at night, and always in traditional six-man tag team matches.
"Even though he was being booked as a technico, he was acting like a rudo," explained Velma.
For example, instead of taking the first fall for his squadron, Maestro De Suciedad took only the seventh and tenth falls. And he refused to tag out to his captain until executing a perfect tope con rana.
The gang split into two groups and set off to track down the elusive Maestro; however, they weren't successful at first. Fred was knocked out by a steel folding chair, while Daphne was the recipient of a scathing shoot promo.
Thanks to a tip from Mistico, Scooby and Shaggy eventually tracked down the Maestro perched on a ladder. Scooby accidentally ran into it, knocking the luchador down and breaking a pressboard table on the way down.
The gang then unmasked the grappler and revealed him to be Felipé, the crotchety old janitor who used to clean up the arena. It turns he out was trying to scare away arena patrons because there was a bag of gold coins hanging from a rope above the ring.
"I would have gotten away with it, too, had it not been for you meddling gringos!"
The gang was rewarded for their efforts with a bottle of tequila and a couple of Scooby Snacks.
