The New Day
The Twin Towers
FIRST ROUND MATCH
Welcome to The 4th Annual Hasbro/Retro Classic, a tournament where you determine the winners... and just by voting, you could qualify to win a FREE Hasbro figure when the tournament concludes this spring! This unique tournament features WWF Hasbro figures battling it out with WWE Retro figures for tag team action figure supremacy!
This week in first-round action, we have The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E, with Xavier Woods at ringside) against the unfortunately-named Twin Towers (Big Boss Man and Akeem). The match begins, as you would expect, with a dance-off between Big E. and Akeem The African Dream.
After the dance-off (which is, according to our judges, a toss up), The Twin Towers begin using their considerable size advantage to good use.
Akeem hammers Big E with a series of forearm smashes, causing The New Day member to struggle catching his breath. Fairly soon, manager Slick (not visible from our vanatage point) orders Akeem to bring Big E into The Twin Towers' corner so that he and Big Boss Man can double team their foes.
With The New Day's chances of winning The Hasbro/Retro Classic be over before they begin?
Big E tries to muster up some pancake power to change the fortunes of The New Day, but The Twin Towers are making surprisingly-quick tags here, effectively cutting the ring in half.
In and out of the ring, The Twin Towers use every dirty tactic to their advantage to ensure that The Power of Paunch outweighs The Power of Positivity in this match.
With Big E trapped in a neutral corner, Big Boss Man takes his partner Akeem and whips him directly at The New Day member. Big E is about to be squashed by a Twin Tower sandwich! Unless....
How did you vote?
At the last possible moment, Big E ducks out of the way! Akeem is unable to stop the momentum of one 400 pounder whipping another 400 pounder into the corner, and accidentally goes flying over the top rope!
With Big Bossman temporarily distracted (and... why is that, by the way? Shouldn't he just turn around and continue fighting instead of watching his partner on the outside of the ring? Things in wrestling that make you wonder...), Big E slowly crawls to a friendly corner.
With Kofi Kingston anxiously awaiting the hot tag, Big E crawls to the corner and touches hands with his partner! Kofi is in. Can The New Day use this temporary advantage to turn this match around?
In a word.... no.
After attempting some high-flying maneuvers, Kofi Kingston is quickly caught by Akeem the African Dream and slammed around the ring. Big E and Xavier can only watch on from their posts to witness a Twin Towers beat-down resuming.
Akeem and Big Boss Man continually make quick tags in and out of the ring, hammering Kingston with punishing clotheslines, slams and chokes. At one point, Akeem press slams Kofi up into the air and drops him to the mat with authority.
Things aren't looking Bootlicious for The New Day at the moment.
The Twin Towers continue to work over Kofi Kingston, trying to make sure that The New Day member doesn't survive to see a new day.
With Kingston trapped in the corner post by a brutal Akeem attack, Xavier Woods jumps up on the mat to make a hail-mary for his team!
According to the rules governing The 4th Annual Hasbro/Retro Classic, outside interference isn't allowed. But given there are no referees.....
Big Boss Man gets distracted (sigh... again) and while he's busy pummeling Xavier Woods on the apron, Big E sneaks into the ring and surprises Akeem with a schoolboy. The cover.... One... Two.... Three! YOUR WINNERS: THE NEW DAY!
Be sure to vote each week to determine who advances to the next round. Next up: The New Day vs. Twin Towers.
When you vote via email, not only do you help determine who wins the tournament, you're also eligible to win a FREE Hasbro figure when the 4th Annual Hasbro/Retro Classic concludes this spring!
