Lord Steven Regal
Sting and Lord Steven Regal (now William Regal) clashed several times during the mid-1990's in WCW. Most notably, they battled on the undercard of The Great American Bank in 1996, where Regal submitted to The Stinger's Scorpion Deathlock. They also battled at live events and on WCW Saturday Night.
Over the weekend, Sting made his WWE debut at WrestleMania. And while he ultimately lost, the truth is, that The Stinger has been doing his thing for 30 years now -- and he's made a lot of enemies along the way.
Whether during his days in the UWF, NWA/WCW, TNA and now WWE, Sting has managed to be part of some epic rivalries. And much as we have done in the past for Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels -- we're looking at the biggest rivalries of The Stinger's career.
Just as a reminder, we're basing this on storyline rivalries Sting had with wrestlers and non-wrestlers alike, not speculating on what may have happened backstage.
In counting down the Top 50 Sting Rivalries, we looked at the following criteria:
-
How prominent was the rivarly?
-
What type of stage(s) did it play out on?
-
How memorable were the matches and/or segments?
-
How much did the rivalry do to advance either person's career?
As always, we'd love your feedback. If you have any ideas for future Top 50 columns (the archives are to the bottom right of this page), leave a comment in the section below, or hit us up on Twitter @CanadianBulldog with the hashtag #Top50.

Stunning Steve Austin
Sting and Goldberg first met on Nitro in 1998, when Da Man scored a rare clean victory over The Stinger. Later, the two battled at Slamboree 1999 in a match that was ruined by outside interference by The Steiner Brothers and Bret Hart. And even later that year, Goldberg defeated Sting to (briefly) hold the World Title.
