Last month, Canadian Bulldog's World re-opened its Required WrestleMania Reading section, which will explores a variety of topics from The Grandest Stage Of Them All.
This week, we decided to turn our attention to the people themselves -- anyone who had an on-screen contribution that helped to make WrestleMania the sports entertainment juggernaut it is today.
At first, we considered something that was purely done on a win-loss record standpoint, but there are many flaws for being that scientific about it. Could you argue, for example that Rob Van Dam's 4-0 WrestleMania record is better than The Undertaker's 24-2 because RVD has technically suffered fewer losses? Probably not.
Plus, a lot of the important people involved with Mania aren't just the wrestlers. There are the managers, the announcers and many other non-wrestlers that were just as important to the event as the in-ring competitors.
In ranking the Top 50 WrestleMania All Stars, Canadian Bulldog's World looked at the following criteria:
How closely is this person associated with the term WrestleMania?
How many big WrestleMania matches (e.g. main event or equivalent) have they been involved with, either as a wrestler or non-wrestler?
If you have any comments (or suggestions for future Top 50 lists - see the bottom right hand of this page for the ones that have been published to date), drop us a line on Twitter @CanadianBulldog using the hashtag #Top50.
Ready? Here we go!
The Miz has three wins and five losses to his credit at WrestleMania. Most importantly, the A-Lister defeated John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania XXVII. He's also teamed with partners including John Morrison, The Big Show and as part of "Team Johnny," and most recently, he battled Shane McMahon.
Rey Mysterio has four WrestleMania wins to his credit. The Master Of The 619 defeated Chavo Guerrero, Randy Orton and Kurt Angle, John Bradshaw Layfield and CM Punk. In addition, Mysterio has suffered four losses, including to Matt Hardy, Chavo Guerrero, Cody Rhodes and most recently to Samoa Joe.
While WWE may not brag about Chris Benoit's exploits today, the fact remains that he won the World Title in the main event of WrestleMania XX and holds victories over Kurt Angle and MVP. On the losses side, he's been defeated by Team Angle, John Bradshaw Layfield and he failed to win Money In The Bank.
